Emily Bezar, MA comes to Virginia Tech from northern California, where she held administrative positions in nonprofit, academic, and government settings. Her interest in healthcare research was sparked by working with Parkinson’s Disease patients to develop a program of dance and yoga classes for the Berkeley/Oakland Parkinson’s community. As the research manager for a Newborn Screening outcomes study conducted by the California Department of Public Health, Emily presented study findings at the Association of Public Health Laboratories Newborn Screening and Genetic Testing Symposium. A singer, keyboardist, and composer, Emily received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory and went on to complete a Master of Arts in Music at Stanford University. She has recorded and released eight albums of her own jazz, rock, and classical songs. Her artistic and scientific curiosities converge in her interest in neuroaesthetics and the psychology of music.
