Welcome from the Director

Alex Hanlon

Greetings! Welcome to the Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (CBHDS) website. The Center is academically housed in Virginia Tech’s Department of Statistics, in the College of Science, with offices located in Roanoke, Virginia. We are excited to contribute our expertise in biostatistics, data science, programming, and data management to health- and medically-related research projects carried out by Virginia Tech (and beyond) investigators. Our goal is to cultivate successful and prolific long-term collaborations, support funded grant proposals, promote peer-reviewed publications, and enhance presentations at professional conferences.

The full list of services offered by the Center can be found here.

We emphasize the importance of seeking support early on in your project life cycle and depending upon your needs, can serve as short-term consultants or long-term collaborators. For long-term projects, we will work with you from study design, through data acquisition, data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of results.

Our services are funded by institutional support, the NIH CTSA iTHRIV grant mechanism, direct grant, and contract support. Institutional and CTSA funds provide support for grant preparation and short-term consultation on general health- and medically-related and translational studies, respectively. Direct support is provided for CBHDS faculty and staff named as co-investigator or key personnel on grants/contracts with NIH, other agencies, foundations, and industry partners. For investigators, departments, centers, or organizations requiring significant and ongoing support from CBHDS, we are happy to work with you to establish retainer agreements.

We look forward to working with you! Should you have questions or comments, please reach out to Amanda Boone at amandab22@vt.edu. To request statistical support, please submit your request here.

Warm Regards,
Alex Hanlon
