The 10th Annual Uplifting Black Men Conference at Virginia Tech provided faculty and students with an engaging and enriching experience, featuring networking opportunities, industry panels, a research symposium, and an awards ceremony celebrating Black male excellence. Among the highlights was a dynamic workshop led by Dr. Emmanuel Nartey, CBHDS Research Scientist.

Dr. Nartey’s session titled "CUBE: Exploring Health Data Science & Biostatistics through Collaboration", introduced attendees to the critical role of data science and biostatistics in medicine and public health. Participants learned about the Collaborative Undergraduate Biostatistics Experience (CUBE), an NIH-funded summer program that provides undergraduate students in STEM with a hands-on collaborative research experience, along with related professional development activities. The interactive workshop featured a Jeopardy!-style game, reinforcing key biostatistics concepts while fostering engagement and collaboration.

Participants ranged from high school to  graduate students, with four faculty members also in attendance. The workshop left attendees with a clearer understanding of career pathways in health data science, along with actionable steps to apply for future CUBE cohorts. The session aligned with the conference’s mission to empower and uplift Black male students by expanding access to academic and professional development resources.
