CBHDS Presents on Ensuring Equal Opportunity at Translational Science 2025 Annual Meeting

Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (CBHDS) Director Alexandra Hanlon and Assistant Director Alicia Lozano presented during Translational Science 2025 in Washington D.C., April 15-17, 2025. Notably, Alexandra Hanlon received the Mentoring Award from an Association for Clinical Translational Science (ACTS) Special Interest Group (SIG) on Monday, April 14.
“Ensuring Equal Opportunity: Innovative Education and Training Practices in Health Data Science,” a multi-institutional panel including Dr. Hanlon, Felicity Enders, Jodi Lapidus, and Jareen Meinzen-Derr, focused on advancing data and equal workforce opportunity through innovative educational programs and outreach initiatives. The overarching theme of equal opportunity was discussed, including the CBHDS' CUBE, an immersive undergraduate internship for students in STEM.
The session was intended for those with an interest in being part of the data science community, including clinicians, methodologists, educators, and program developers who are actively engaged in promoting equal opportunity through their teaching and research efforts, as well as for those new to the field who are seeking guidance on integrating the principles discussed into their work. By the conclusion of the session, participants gained actionable insights into how to infuse relevant principles into curricula and training programs, ultimately providing the next generation of translational scientists with effective tools for success.
