Virginia Tech Researchers Awarded NIH Grant to Study Health Impacts of Hurricane Helene , articleVirginia Tech’s Dr. Julia Gohlke has received a new NIH R61/R33 grant to study the health impacts of Hurricane Helene across rural Appalachian regions of North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Partnering with CBHDS Director Dr. Alexandra Hanlon and Research Scientist Dr. Chris Grubb, the team will analyze how flooding events affect healthcare access, infrastructure, and recovery. Findings will help improve disaster preparedness and healthcare resilience across Appalachia’s most underserved communities.
