Mason Zoellner

Mason Zoellner is an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Virginia Tech Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Data-Centric Computing major through the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, graduating May 2026. At CBHDS, Mason supports research projects through data cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as survey design, data collection, and website updates. He has developed Python pipelines to match academic publications with external citation sources, improving accuracy and enhancing academic dossiers. He has also implemented automated methods to annotate CVs and built reusable R scripts for adverse event data analysis. Prior to CBHDS, Mason contributed to AI/ML research at the Hume Center for National Security and Technology, co-authoring a publication on integrating multi-sensor data with AI-driven object detection and presenting at national conferences. He also worked as a Data Reductionist in transportation safety research and has experience in software engineering. Mason is passionate about applying data science to healthcare challenges with the goal of improving health outcomes and building a healthier America. Beyond work and academics, Mason is engaged in Christian ministry and leadership development.
