April 30, 2021
Dr. Ian Crandell, Research Scientist at the Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (CBHDS) at Virginia Tech Link, was invited by colleagues at Carilion Clinic to describe his experience as the first to work with a large electronic health record (EHR) dataset from the TriNetX COVID-19 research network within the institution’s SPARC (Storage and Programs Accelerating Research Collaborations) environment for their April 2021 Research Newsletter. Dr. Crandell discusses his collaboration with Dr. Alex Hanlon, Director of CBHDS, and an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional team from Carilion Clinic and the Fralin Life Sciences Institute at Virginia Tech on a study looking to examine the moderating effect of race on the relationship between COVID-19 outcomes and vitamin D.
