In February 2022, CBHDS Assistant Director, Alicia Lozano, presented a talk  titled "CUBE: A Collaborative Undergraduate Biostatistics Experience to Bring Diversity and Awareness to the Field of Collaborative Biostatistics"  at the 2023 American Statistical Association (ASA) Conference on Statistical Practice held in San Francisco, CA. Co-authors of this presentation included CBHDS Director, Dr. Alexandra Hanlon, and CBHDS Research Scientist, Dr. Monica Ahrens.

The goal of this presentation was to offer an overview of the key components of the Collaborative Undergraduate Biostatistics Experience (CUBE) curriculum and to motivate leaders in the field to adopt this training model or create similar programs to provide a pipeline for equity and diversity in the practice of collaborative biostatistics and heath data science. CUBE was developed to increase awareness in the field of collaborative biostaistics among underrepresented minorities. This program is built on four pillars, including: introductory biostatistics, training in R, and professional development, as well as mentorship through a collaborative biostatistics research project, to provide comprehensive training to underrepresented minority undergraduate students majoring in STEM fields.
